The barbering option prepares barber-styling and other personal grooming specialists to manage barber shops, and full-service or specialized barbershops to prepare for licensure as a professional barber. Includes instruction in basic science barber-styling, marketing and retailing; advertising and promotion; management, salon supply industries, hiring, supervision, and labor relations; applicable business and professional laws and regulations, professional standards and image; and customer service.
Students are provided a complete review of all procedures and practical skills pertaining to their training in the program. Upon completion, the student should be able to demonstrate the theory and practical skills necessary to complete successfully the required Alabama Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination. All entering students under the AAS degree must complete all required classes before they can take Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering License Exam. Students cannot drop from an AAS Salon and Spa Degree to the Career Certificate. Entering students are required to complete ORI107. Transfer students are exempt from this requirement.
All entering students under the AAS Barbering Option are required to complete all required classes listed in degree plan before they can take the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering License Exam. Students cannot drop from an AAS Salon and Spa Degree to the Career Certificate.
